Getting a Puppy:

Natural, raw dog food:

  • Hare Today, Gone Tomorrow
  • If you do not wish to feed raw diets, we recommend the following dog foods. Whatever you decide, please do your research on Canine Dilated Cardiomopathy, aka “DCM” There are lots of great groups you can join on Facebook on the subject.  This has affected Goldens! The short of it is, until we know more, avoid grain-free foods; boutique foods; and foods that contain peas, legumes, potatoes.  You need to look for a grain-inclusive food that is AAFCO certified ALS (all life stages); a minimum of 24g protein and moderate fat of at least 14%; as close to a calcium/phosphorus ration of 1-to-1;   Calories less than 400 per cup. If the food has more and is high protein/fat, simply feed less. Look up feeding guidelines by WSAVA.  We are on a rotation of foods, as no one single food will take care all your dog’s needs. Try to feed 2 to 3 different proteins: fish, chicken/turkey, beef, pork.
    • Royal Canin Golden Retriever Adult or Puppy
    • Tuffy’s Gold (our dogs thrive on this)
    • Purina ProPlan Sport Formulas (Chicken/Turkey/Beef or Fish)
    • Farmina Ancestral Grains
