Puppy Policy

FOR PUPPY POLICY PAGE

Our puppies are only placed in carefully selected homes between the ages of 8-10 weeks, depending on the needs of the litter. We ask that you fully consider the commitment of owning a Golden Retriever. We firmly believe that working Goldens, such as we breed, are not the ideal dog for the average overscheduled, busy family. We expect that you have determined you have the time and energy to add a puppy to your family. Sporting dogs need regular exercise and training. We ask that all of our puppy buyers complete a basic obedience class with their new dog and put the effort into socializing their puppy in a positive way. We expect our potential buyers to be committed to love and care for their puppy for the entirety of its life. If it comes to pass that you can no longer care for your dog, we do require under contract that the dog be returned to us. We are committed to our dogs for their lifetimes!

Lifetime commitment and support.  This isn’t just a nice phrase on some website that doesn’t really mean anything.  Whether it’s good news or bad, sharing pictures and stories, asking advice, we love our dogs and their owners just as much.  We’re here for our owners through our private Facebook group, by text, phone calls, or emails.  Our owners have our commitment to this wonderful breed and the lifetime support for their dog.

I prefer to wait until breeding plans are announced before accepting applications, and my wait list tends to fill quickly. However, I do not accept deposits until a pregnancy is confirmed. At that time, I contact those on my list to collect deposits and officially enter them into the waiting pool. Deposits are $500 toward the total puppy price of $3,000.

Rather than assigning “first pick” or “second pick,” I focus on matching puppies with the right homes. My goal is to create successful, lasting relationships between puppies and their families. I spend extensive time observing each puppy, keeping detailed notes, and evaluating temperament using Avidog’s APET assessment, which measures 33 different temperament traits. This process has helped create thousands of successful matches and also allows me to provide customized training guidance for each puppy. Simply put, I ask families to trust that no one knows these puppies better than I do.

Please note that being in the waiting pool does not guarantee a puppy. Sometimes litter size or breeder decisions make that necessary. If I’m unable to place a puppy with you, you may either move your deposit to a future litter or receive a refund. Once I have selected a puppy specifically for you, the deposit becomes non-refundable. I’m also happy to provide a copy of my contract for review at any time.

Companion puppies are sold on limited AKC registration with a spay/neuter agreement. Dogs on limited registration may still participate in AKC performance events such as obedience, rally, agility, hunt tests, and more. I handle the AKC registration paperwork for you, and the certificate will arrive directly from AKC. A $20 registration fee is due at pickup, which saves you $10 compared to registering independently. All puppies are required to be registered.

Full registration is considered only for reputable, established show or breeder homes. All puppies are sold under contract outlining both mine and your responsibilities for the well-being of the puppy.

Under contract, pet owners agree to delay spay/neuter until after 24 months of age, or to responsibly maintain the dog intact. Current research supports delayed alteration for healthy growth and development, and I prefer gonad-sparing procedures when alteration is chosen. Altering a puppy before physical maturity will void the health guarantee.

Special consideration is given to working and performance homes, as my breeding program emphasizes sound working temperament. However, I prefer not to place puppies specifically as service dog prospects.

When you take your puppy home, you will receive:
• A comprehensive puppy guide covering care, health, feeding, grooming, training, parent information, OFA certifications, and your puppy’s temperament evaluation
• Ongoing training support and breeder guidance
• Veterinary exam records, deworming, first vaccinations, and health records
• An AKC Reunite microchip with prepaid lifetime enrollment
• A 2-year health guarantee covering life-threatening congenital issues involving hips, eyes, and heart, up to the purchase price of the puppy
• Lifetime breeder support

I also value staying connected with my puppy families. Our private Facebook group allows owners to share updates, ask questions, and stay involved as the puppies grow. For families not on Facebook, I stay in touch through phone or email. Ongoing communication helps me continue improving my breeding program and ensures owners feel supported throughout their dog’s life.
